Gülçin Alpöge


Gülçin Alpöge was born in Istanbul, Turkey. She received her BA degree from the American College in Turkey in 1955, and an MA degree in Education from New York University in 1959. Then she worked with pre-school children for 13 years in two different countries and in the foundation of two nursery schools. Alpöge received her PhD in Psycholinguistics from the University of Istanbul in 1983. She became Professor in 2002. She retired from the Boğaziçi University, Faculty of Education where she taught “Children's Literature” for 13 years among other subjects. Alpöge has written articles, and has designed curriculum programs. She has academic books, and translations of academic books. She was an editor for the Educational Journal of the Faculty of Education. She conducted a research on children’s books. She founded the small children’s books library at the Faculty of Education. She also writes children’s books. She writes in Turkish and has published 30 books and she has a CD where she reads her own stories for children. Having worked as a pre-school teacher she knows the kind of questions children ask and in her stories she uses these questions as a point of departure. She also retells fairy and folktales for children.
